There are many trails in and around Guelph, Ontario. The Smith Property Loop Trail is a 4.3-km loop trail near Puslinch, Ontario. It is an easy stroll with the only elevation at the turn-around portion of the loop.

Best enjoyed in the bug-shoulder season or else the mosquitos will be unbearable.

Within a few meters the path forks and we opted for the right path which travels in a straight line due to it being on an old rail bed. There are a few sections with a lovely low canopy giving this trail a fairy tale feel to it. The Eramosa river can be seen through the breaks in the trees to the south and there are some side paths that take you to the water’s edge.

There is a dam that can be viewed from the water’s edge.

Once around the loop the terrain changes to have less dense trees on either side. Visitors are treated with occasional breaks of meadows filled with Goldenrod and Asters. We saw many bees doing their thing, a few snails snailing and a few different types of fungi.

Summary: it’s a lovely walk, can be busy at times, and watch out for cyclists!
